SpLeeN have developed since 2001 their characteristic sound combining acoustic and electric guitars and a unique voice.
The early years (2001-2004)
The creative output of the first two years can be heard on SpLeeN’s first album ‘Heels over head’ that was released in October 2003 and is available in most record shops in Luxembourg. SpLeeN had the opportunity to record at Duke’s studio in Belgium. Working with the Belgian band Venus’sound engineer proved a valuable experience for the band.
The Uncoated Album (2004-2005)
SpLeeN has been busy writing and recording songs for the new album ’Uncoated’. There have been a few changes since the last album. Fränk now plays the bass guitar, so obviously there are no more keyboards. Also, there are no more violin tracks, as the style of the new CD took a different direction from the previous album. The new album was recorded in Luxembourg and provided all members with precious experience and advice from a sound engineer and producer. Most songs are collaboration between songwriter Cédric and lyrics writers Isabelle and Fränk. They range from political criticism, over general issues in society, upbeat music, to very personal statements.
Spleenatic (2005-2010)
In 2006, the actual singer Françoise joined the band. After a one year recording session, SpLeeN is proud to present their new album ‘Spleenatic’ in January 2008.The voice is different, song writing has become more mature, string arrangements are supporting the songs but the overall style remained the same.’Spleenatic’ has become a big success including 4 Top Ten Luxembourg Radio charts singles, placing Spleen on Number 1 and 2 !! of RTL’s Luxembourgish single charts of the year 2008 and making Spleen be the only national band in the Top Ten of RTL’s international ’single of the year’ charts. Spleen is now recording a new album. Pieces of the new songs will be uploaded soon.
Present (2011- …)
With several local Top-Ten radio singles and gigs with international stars like Simple Minds, The Script, Paolo Nutini, Silbermond, Arid, Gentleman, … SPLEEN now present their new album “The Murder Of Lilly Stone”. On Spleen’s fourth album, their already polished sound is burnished to a high-gloss glow. The 11 tunes are models of craftsmanship and efficiency, each delivering catchy verses and distinctive melodies. The lyrics chronicle the critical and often black views of the band.
